How’s it going?
INXS once had an eighties hit ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ featuring the line ‘two worlds colliding’ – and that’s the theme on Saturday when both the Flat and jumps meet on a lively afternoon.
If you’re wondering, there are just four weeks left on the Flat – Cheltenham’s jumps resurface in a fortnight.
However, there is still plenty of Flat action to cram into the final month, including Ascot’s Champions Day, the Breeders’ Cup and Melbourne Cup.
You’re in good hands.
Racing Things To Know
👉 There are eight Saturday races on ITV – five at Newmarket and three from York.
👉 Newmarket’s Future Champions Festival features the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes (3.00), plus the second leg of the ‘Autumn Double’, the Cesarewitch (3.40).
👉 Chepstow’s Welsh Racing Festival marks the unofficial start of the jumps season – every race on Saturday and Sunday is live on Sky Sports Racing.
👉 Billy Loughnane is 25+ winners clear of Oisin Murphy in the Flat Jockeys’ Championship – the title race appears all but over.
👉 Andrew Balding is just over £100k clear of Aidan O’Brien in the Flat Trainers’ Championship – this could go down to the wire.
👉 Daryz last weekend became the first colt to win back-to-back Arcs since 1978.
👉 An unraced colt fetched a European sales record of 4,600,000gns in midweek; in football terms, it's like paying £50m for Erling Haaland’s 18-month-old son: possibly outstanding, possibly crap.
Saturday’s Edges
Crossbars were rattled and posts struck last weekend, so hopefully the back of the net ripples on Saturday as we reveal another batch of thoroughly researched Edges to take those bastard bookies on ⚔️
1. William Haggas (Trainer)
✅ YORK’S SPRINT TROPHY DAY
ℹ️ Haggas’s runners on this corresponding day at York recorded 7 wins from 21 runs for a +£14 profit to £1 level stakes (last five years) – each of those winners ran during the last 21-30 days (7-11 +£24).
Saturday’s runners:
Weffaag (2.40 York)
Binhareer (3.17 York)
Iron Stone Lad (3.57 York)
Divine Knight (4.32 York)
2. Charlie Appleby (Trainer)
✅ NEWMARKET’S FUTURE CHAMPIONS DAY
ℹ️ Appleby’s runners on this corresponding day at Newmarket returned 10 wins from 27 runs for a +£0 profit to £1 level stakes (last five years).
Last year, Appleby sent a speculative 8 runners for this card – the most he’s ever sent – resulting in 0-8, but when sticking to fewer runners from 2021-2024, they returned 10-19 (+£8). This year he’s sending just 5 runners, so hopefully that’s a good sign.
Saturday’s runners:
Al Jabbar (2.25)
Desert Castle & Jassas (3.00)
Desert Romance (4.15)
National Honour (4.50)
3. Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies (Trainer)

ℹ️ Last time out winners on this corresponding day at Hexham returned 7 wins from 18 runs for a +£6 profit to £1 level stakes (last five years).
Of the winners, those that triumphed during the last 60 days or less recorded an even crisper strike-rate of 5 wins from 9 runs (+£9).
Saturday’s runners:
Passing Diamond (3.45)

Getaway Vic & Jeteye (4.55)
I’ve Got A Friend (5.30)

The Purist
All roads lead to York for The Purist on Saturday afternoon.
The question is: will he or won’t he? We’re talking Fine Interview.
Here’s who The Purist is backing on Saturday…
1.30 York Dubai Champion
Having looked at the history of York’s Listed Rockingham Stakes for two-year-olds, it was interesting to note that the majority of past winners all recorded a top-two effort on their last few runs – something the top three in Friday’s betting all lacked.
This suggested a way into the equation for ITV’s opener tomorrow, and Dubai Champion could be it. He’s improved with every run this season bar when badly fluffing the start here two outings ago, and his short-head second to Revels at Goodwood reads well as that rival has since improved in Group/Listed company. This colt loves the mud and a repeat of his second at Ayr last time – when unfavoured at the weights – should put him bang there at fair odds.
3.17 York Fine Interview
Regulars will know I was sweet on him winning the Ayr Gold Cup several weeks ago, and he did well to grab fourth to collect some each-way money despite the draw not helping. Now it’s shit or bust time – actually, that phrase makes no sense, as it’s surely a loss both ways?
Conditions at York appear ideal once more, and even James Doyle – who was only 1-9 on him – has been replaced by ‘apprentice of the moment’, Jack Nicholls, who takes a handy 3lb off the saddle. It’s also worth noting that the form of his eye-catching seventh here two outings ago has continued to work out well. The big concern is the blinkers fitted for the first time, which could work either way. But, at odds of around 11/1 to 12/1, and with what looks a good draw historically in this race, it’s well worth paying to find out.
4.32 York All In You
Sometimes it can pay to simply go with the obvious – in this case, following an in-form trainer such as Warren Greatrex who is certainly red-hot.
Three of his last five runners obliged since Sunday, and All In You has some nice ticks in his box. A three-time winner over hurdles, he’s only had five Flat runs, yet won two of them over 1m7f in the French mud. He didn’t like the good to firm ground at Royal Ascot and did well to rally into fourth in a similar 1m6f handicap at the St Leger meeting on good ground – a race in which the form has since been franked. If this turns into a gruelling test on late-season good to soft ground on the Knavesmire then All In You should be there at the death.
Horse(s) To Follow
Okay, we’re going all jumpsy from here on – for the record, Google states jumpsy as ‘someone who is nervous’, but you know what we mean.
Here’s the first one that went into our database for the new season ahead.
Larzac (5yo)
Larzac won the second division of Uttoxeter’s maiden hurdle last Sunday, which was also won by De Temps En Temps last season, prior to landing odds of 22/1 at Cheltenham. This ex-Willie Mullins gelding won very snugly on his debut for Faye Bramley and remains lightly raced after seven outings.
Stable Talk
With the jumps season moving up a notch this weekend, here are some very informative midweek stable interviews well worth reading – each courtesy of At The Races…
We Almost Forgot…
📌 Favourites (incl. joint) poked their heads in front at Newmarket on Future Champions Saturday during the last five years with 16 wins from 40 runs (+£4) – the majority came in non-handicaps: 15-28 (+£14).
